Medical facility inside tunnel

A temporary medical facility has been expanded within the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi as part of rescue efforts to free 41 trapped workers, following the completion of the vital task of placing pipes in the tunnel.

The hospital has been enlarged to accommodate the workers who will be evacuated. The Health Department has set up eight beds in case something goes wrong. A group of physicians and specialists has been sent in.

Every preparation has been completed to ensure that labourers receive the necessary medical care following their evacuation.

2 metres of drilling left, says NDMA

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that just two metres of drilling remain for the rescuers to reach the trapped workers, signalling the end of the ordeal that has lasted for seventeen days.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the professionals in rat-hole mining have reached the 58-meter mark and are approximately two metres away from finishing their manual drilling. Following the initial assessment at the location, ambulances have gathered at the mouth of the tunnel to transport the rescued workers quickly to the community health clinic, which is around 30 kilometres away.

The NDMA has said the rescue efforts to take out the 41 workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel will be completed by Wednesday morning.

The NDMA has asserted that all precautions will be taken while evacuating the 41 workers who have been trapped in the Silkyara tunnel.

"All safety precautions will be implemented. No premature announcements are to be made, it will be against all principles. Mother of trapped worker awaits reunion

The mother of a labourer who was stuck in the Silkyara tunnel in Khirabera village, Ranchi, expressed her distress, saying her son has been stuck for 17 days. She expressed her eagerness from the bottom of her heart and said that she would only be happy when she saw her son safely return. She emphasised how shocked she is, saying that she won't believe the news until she sees her son herself.

Trapped workers close to being rescued

According to officials, rescuers were on the verge of rescuing 41 workers who have been stranded in the collapsed Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand for the past 16 days, inside a 60-meter section of debris on Tuesday.

A little after 1:30 pm, Bansi Dhar Tiwari, the head of the state government's information department, informed reporters at the catastrophe site that the drilling was "over."

NHAI to conduct audit of all tunnels

Following the Silkyara tunnel incident, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to carry out an audit of all tunnels.

Nightfall may delay workers' evacuation: NDMA

According to the NDMA, a Chinook helicopter will be used to evacuate the trapped workers. However, delays and subsequent nightfall may postpone the evacuation till Wednesday morning.

"Chinook helicopter is present at Chinyalisaur airstrip...The last time to fly the Chinook helicopter is 4:30 pm. We will not fly it during the night. Since there is a delay, the workers will be brought the next morning," NDMA member Syed Ata Hasnain told the media.

Rescued workers to be taken to Chinyalisaur Community Health Centre 

The 41 workers, who have been stuck in the tunnel since November 12, will be transferred to the Chinyalisaur Community Health Centre after their rescue, according to news agency PTI. 

A 41-bed ward including trauma center ready. A team of cardiac and psychiatric specialist doctors including trauma surgeon ready. Three helicopters can be landed simultaneously at the helipad of Rishikesh AIIMS. Workers in critical condition will be airlifted to Rishikesh AIIMS.

Food being sent for trapped workers along with ambulances 

A representative of the tunnel's construction business, Navayuga Engineering Business Limited, based in Hyderabad, said today that food was being sent with the ambulances to the besieged workers.  

"The ambulance is being sent, along with food (for the trapped workers). The menu for today includes rice, dal, roti, and aloo gobhi, according to Vikas Rana, Assistant HR of Navayuga Engineering Company Limited, located in Hyderabad.

Workers trapped in the Uttarkashi tunnel for the last 16 days appear to be getting some respite shortly, with officials edging closer to a key breakthrough on Tuesday.

While all efforts are being made to preserve lives, officials are also guaranteeing adequate post-evacuation treatment.

The workers would most likely be transferred to Dehradun or the district hospital, depending on the situation.

The authorities are also prepared to give workers with mental health care.

The official also stated that the workers may suffer psychological damage as a result of being trapped in a small location for an extended period of time.

The pipe laying work inside the Silkyara tunnel, where efforts to rescue 41 trapped workers are continuing, has been concluded, according to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

"With the blessing of Baba Baukh Nag Ji, prayers of crores of countrymen and the tireless work of the rescue teams engaged in the rescue operation, the work of laying pipes in the tunnel to take out the workers has been completed. Soon all the labourers will be taken out," CM Dhami said in a post on X.

During a news conference earlier today, Neeraj Khairwal, the Nodal Officer for the Silkyara rescue mission and Secretary to the Uttarakhand government, stated that if no more obstacles arise, the rescuers anticipate an early extraction of the trapped labourers.

The pipe laying work inside the Silkyara tunnel, where efforts to rescue 41 trapped workers are continuing, has been concluded, according to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
