Mumbai: After breaking the 12-year hoodoo at the Wankhede on Friday, Kolkata Knight Riders are a side that is upbeat. That was evident after the game when Venkatesh Iyer and Andre Russell engaged in a lovable banter in the presence of Suryakumar Yadav and Venky Mysore. During the match, Russell was run out and Iyer was at the other end when it happened. There was a bit of a confusion and Russell eventually found himself short after Iyer did not respond completely to the call for a single.

Iyer also bagged the Player of The Match award for his brilliant 70 off 52 balls.
“As a professional cricketer, I have to be flexible in terms of situation. When I started hitting the ball well, two more wickets fell and I thought I have to play the anchor role. This is the fourth or fifth time Manish has padded up. This time he got to bat. Rather than sending Russell and Ramandeep higher, better to have Manish who can play the anchor role. Ball was holding and it was a two paced wicket. I try to be a smarter cricketer. Would’ve been easy for me to go after Piyush Chawla and the fast bowlers,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation.
