In a major achievement, Indian singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan won his first Grammy this year for his band ‘Shakti‘. Shankar Mahadevan along with his band mates won the Best Global Album Award for their first studio album ‘This Moment’ at Grammys 2024.
Days after the big win, the singer-composer is finally back in India and received a rousing welcome at the Mumbai airport. He was welcomed by his close friends and family members along with media personnel who gathered to congratulate him.
In videos going viral on social media, Shankar Mahadevan can be seen hugging his family members and friends and later also posing happily for the paparazzi. Giving a shoutout to his band, he wore a red sweatshirt with ‘Shakti’ written on it. Shankar Mahadevan was also captured offering chocolates to paparazzi and said, “This is for all of you.” As he kept walking towards the exit, he continued handing over chocolates to everyone around him while also thanking them.
Shankar Mahadevan also spoke to the media and expressed his excitement and gratitude. Calling it a very “special moment” for all, he said, “What can I say? This is a very special moment for me and all my band members. For me, it is a dream come true. After touring for 25 years, here we got the Grammys.”

At the Grammy Awards 2024, Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain’s fusion band ‘Shakti’ made India proud by winning the Global Music Album award. Their album ‘This Moment’ which was released in June last year competed with music artists like Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.
The singer during his acceptance speech thanked everyone including the band members, his family, friends, and the entire nation. Later, he also shared a heartfelt post on Instagram.
“WE DID IT. I never imagined that a band from where I have learnt my music and my musical aesthetics would be the band with whom I would eventually perform and win a Grammy.
This is the moment from which i can easily say that dreams do come true. Shakti was a dream which came true! thank you Almighty for making this happen! It’s truly “THIS MOMENT,” he wrote.
