Purba Saokat Molla, TMC MLA from Canning, stated the three BJP candidates and a CPI(M)-backed independent nominee wanted to join the TMC on their own, persuaded by the Mamata Banerjee government's development programmes.
BJP candidates Puja Chhatui, Kamal Mandal, and Sushanta Mandal, as well as Independent candidate Narayan Haldar of Mathurapur's Krishnachandrapur panchayat, went missing on Thursday, according to their relatives.

In early trade on Monday, the rupee fell 7 paise to 82.25 versus the US dollar, mirroring a strong US currency and an exodus of foreign assets from domestic equities markets.
The elevated level of oil prices reaching USD 84 per barrel, as well as depressed sentiment in domestic equities markets, impacted on the Indian rupee, according to FX dealers.
The local unit began at 82.23 versus the US dollar on the interbank foreign exchange, then reached a high of 82.21.
It later traded at 82.25, a 7-paise drop from its previous close.

"The Badrinath and Kedarnath temples in Uttarakhand, the Jagannath Temple in Puri, the Ayyappa Temple in Kerala and the Vithoba temple in Pandharpur (Maharashtra) were Buddhist monasteries. These Buddhist monasteries were demolished and then Hindu religious shrines came up there. They were Buddhist monasteries till the eighth century," he said on Sunday.
According to the SP national general secretary, there is plenty of historical proof that all of these temples were Buddhist monasteries.

Four passengers on the Jaipur Express Train were killed after a Railway Protection Force policeman opened fire.

More than 13.13 lakh girls and women went missing in the country between 2019 and 2021, with the most coming from Madhya Pradesh, followed by West Bengal.
According to statistics from the Union Home Ministry, which was filed in Parliament last week, 10,61,648 women over the age of 18 and 2,51,430 girls under the age of 18 went missing across the country between 2019 and 2021.

On being asked about the law and order situation in Jharkhand, JMM MP Hansda said, “The incidents which are happening in Jharkhand or any other places, they might be the secluded incidents. But in Manipur, this (the violence) is happening continuously for the last few months, and the central government is not taking appropriate actions.”
