According to a report in Geo News, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam returned to Pakistan on a private flight from Dubai, along with the manager and other Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) staff. The report went on to state that Pakistan cricketers returned to the country in groups.

First-team players like Agha Salman, Imam-ul-Haq and Shaheen Shah Afridi arrived in Lahore from Kolkata via Dubai.

Babar was seen being surrounded by security officials amid the presence of Pakistan fans at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore. Some were spotted trying to click a selfie with Babar.

Pakistan ended their World Cup campaign having finished in fifth place with eight points. The Men Green had begun their campaign with wins over Netherlands and Sri Lanka, but a string of losses to teams like India and Australia put their semi-final hopes in jeopardy.

In their last match, Pakistan suffered a 93-run loss at the hands of defending champions England.

“We will sit together and take stock. We’ll take positives from this and discuss mistakes. I’m keen to lead the rebuild,” Pakistan captain Babar Azam said after the defeat to England.

Following Pakistan’s shocking World Cup exit, their fast-bowling coach Morne Morkel decided to step down from his position. Morkel’s resignation comes a month before his contract was set to expire. The former South Africa cricketer was appointed earlier this year in June.
