As a result, Rohit became the seventh India skipper to lead his country in 100 or more matches. MS Dhoni (332 matches), Mohammad Azharuddin (221), Virat Kohli (213), Sourav Ganguly (196), Kapil Dev (108) and Rahul Dravid (104) are the other Indian captains to have led the team in more than a century of matches.

As a captain, Rohit has won 73 of his 99 matches so far. The Mumbai cricketer has also scored 3936 runs from 100 matches as captain of India across formats, at an average of 42.78.

Since leading India for the first time in 2017, the 36-year-old has captained the team in nine Tests, 39 ODIs and 51 T20Is.

Rohit has so far scored 328 runs from six matches in the ongoing World Cup. India have won all five matches of the World Cup, including victories against Australia, Pakistan and New Zealand, and are second in the points table with 10 points, only behind South Africa on Net Run Rate (NRR).

Rohit also joined another elite list on Sunday, becoming the fifth Indian batter to score 18,000 runs in international cricket, after he came out to bat against England in their 2023 World Cup clash in Lucknow.

With the feat, Rohit joined Sachin Tendulkar (34,257 runs), Virat Kohli (26,121), Rahul Dravid (24,064) and Sourav Ganguly (18, 433) as the only other Indians to have score 18,000 or more runs in international cricket.

Rohit reached the landmark with a sweep shot against England spinner Adil Rashid for a four.

Rohit is the 20th international cricketer overall to achieve the feat.

On Sunday, Rohit helped India recover from an early setback following the dismissals of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. The India skipper was then involved in a 91-run stand with KL Rahul (39) for the fourth wicket before the latter was dismissed by David Willey in the 31st over.

At the time of writing this report, India were 138/4 in the 32nd over with Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav unbeaten.
