World Cup Final: Why are Ahmedabad fans facing criticism on social media?
With the Cricket World Cup 2023 final at the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, India didn’t just want to beat Australia, they had planned to intimidate them into surrendering. Things, however, turned out to be very different as Australia won the 2023 World Cup title with a six-wicket win over India in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

As fans and experts get busy analysing what went wrong with Team India in the summit clash, a section of social media users are blaming the Ahmedabad crowd for their lack of support for Team India and appreciation for Australia.
In fact, only 92,453 fans turned up to the 1,32,000-capacity stadium and quite a lot were seen leaving the stands before the game ended. Australia captain Pat Cummins also took a dig at the crowd in the stadium after the World Cup win and said that they weren’t noisy enough.
Pat Cummins said, “there was a sea of blue in the hotel and Stadium. To see 1,30,000 Indian shirts is an experience we’ll never forget. The good thing was they weren’t too noisy”. pic.twitter.com/jVX4xnKMAr

Social media users weren’t happy that the fans in Narendra Modi Stadium didn’t indulge in regular chanting or egging on the team.
Last word
The Ahmedabad crowd was rubbish
Need proper fans inside a stadium instead of fly by night pretendersLike the amazing people at Wankhede
Proper fans
Cheered the team on and especially Shami post the dropped catch
Chanted his name non stopBoosted him and the team…

Was part of the Ahmedabad crowd with a set of people from Mumbai. Even they were disappointed with the crowd. Each time they started a chant or anything, nobody followed up. Everyone, busy in their iphone clicking selfies and gulping pepsis

I thought I was imagining it, but the commentators on Star Sports seem to agree on the general silence of the Ahmedabad crowd when an Australian player played a good shot. A Chennai or Kolkata crowd would have behaved differently, and in the true spirit of the game.

This crowd is absolutely embarrassing. Kohli literally has to motion to them to cheer. Horrible finals crowd.

Pat Cummins : we are aiming to silence the big crowd tomorrow
Ahmedabad crowd: hum khud hi nahin bolenge don’t worry

A few also asked for big matches to take place in traditional venues like Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru.
Wankhede crowd would’ve at least cheered morale of the team. Kya ghatiya crowd hai Ahmedabad ka. Aise shaant baithe hai jaise Dentist ka appointment hai

And that is why you have a finals at a stadium like Wankhede.
The crowd has gone silent.
If this was Wankhede, the stadium would have been charged and loud and intimidating to the opponent. This is zero home advantage.— Adi (@Brewkenstein) November 19, 2023
But there were users who defended the Ahmedabad crowd and dismissed what was being reported.
Reading a lot about the Ahmedabad crowd here. I was there. I and thousands of other people were shouting at their loudest, even for at least 15-20 overs after the third wicket fell. Idk what physics goes there, it never seems loud enough. But what a lot of people are ignoring is

You say “Ahmedabad crowd” as if people from all over the country hadn’t flocked to the city to watch the match.
Sit down. You’re embarrassing yourself.

Coming to the match. India scored 240 batting first as their batters struggled on a slow track. Rohit Sharma’s blazing 47, Virat Kohli’s cautious 54 and KL Rahul’s 66 were the top scores for India. In reply, Australia got to the target with seven overs to spare as opener Travis Head slammed 137 off 20 balls.
This is Australia’s record sixth ODI World Cup title.
