WPL 2024 Auction: Top signings, full list of players sold, purse remaining and more

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 player auction concluded in Mumbai on Saturday with uncapped Kashvee Gautam being the biggest buy. Kashvee Gautam, a 20-year-old all-rounder, was acquired by Gujarat Giants for a whopping amount of Rs 2 crore, thereby becoming the most expensive uncapped player in the history of WPL.

Other big buys on Saturday included Australia’s Annabel Sutherland. Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians were involved in a bidding war for Annabel, before DC sealed a Rs 2 crore deal to acquire the services of the 22-year-old. There were even more millionaires. South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail was acquired by Mumbai Indians (MI) for Rs 1.20 crore, whereas uncapped Australian batter Phoebe Litchfield was bought by Gujarat Giants for a price of Rs 1 crore.

Another uncapped Indian, Vrinda Dinesh was bought by UP Warriorz for a price of Rs 1.30 crore. Initially, it was RCB and Gujarat Giants who had entered the race for Vrinda, but then the Warriorz stepped in later to acquire the services of the 22-year-old.

However, one notable player who did not find any takers was Chamari Athapaththu. The Sri Lankan had been in fine form in the Women’s Big Bash League, where she scored 552 runs from 15 matches for Sydney Thunder. However, she would end up being unsold in the initial round of auctions, and would not even feature in the accelerated auction later.

Inoka Ranaweera, an uncapped Sri Lankan bowler, also went unsold. Apart from the Sri Lankan duo, Veda Krishnamurthy and Deandra Dottin also went unsold in initial rounds. Veda would go on to get picked by Gujarat Giants for her base price of Rs 30 lakh, but Dottin remained unsold at the end of the auction.
