Akash, Isha & Anant Ambani get Reliance Industries shareholders' nod for appointment to board

Akash Ambani, Anant Ambani and Isha Ambani have been inducted into Reliance Industries’ board as Non-Executive Directors.

The shareholders of Reliance Industries Friday approved the appointment of chairman Mukesh Ambani’s children with Akash Ambani’s nomination garnering 98.06 per cent, while Isha Ambani getting 98.21 per cent.

Anant Ambani’s appointment to the company’s board received 92.76 per cent votes in favour.

The appointments of Isha, Akash and Anant were given the nod by the board of directors in August this year in what marked as the next big step in the leadership transition at the Reliance Industries.

“The said resolutions have been passed with more than requisite majority on October 26, 2023,” RIL said in a regulatory filing.

The succession plan at Reliance Industries has been in the works for the last few years with all three new generation leaders taking on important roles within the conglomerate.

In August 2022, Isha Ambani was appointed the leader of Reliance Retail, while Akash Ambani became Chairman of Reliance Jio in June last year.

Anant Ambani was appointed as the leader of the company’s energy vertical in August 2022.

In December 2021, Mukesh Ambani had hinted at the leadership transition at RIL. “I have no doubt that Akash, Isha and Anant as the next-gen leaders will lead Reliance to even greater heights,” he had said.

In another key decision, Reliance Industries board of directors had accepted the resignation of Nita Ambani.

She will continue to remain the Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation. As Chairperson, she will continue to attend Reliance Industries’ board meetings as a permanent invitee on all meetings.

Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani will continue at the help for another five years, as he had announced during the AGM.
