Annu Kapoor’s Hamare Baarah Release Delayed Until June 14 After Bombay High Court Hearing

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Annu Kapoor grabbed the headlines after the ‘disturbing’ video of his upcoming film ‘Hamare Baarah’ made several rounds on social media. The matter escalated rapidly and the Dream Girl received death threats after releasing a promo of the film. Now, the Bombay High Court has currently halted the release of ‘Hamare Baarah’. Scroll down to find more details.

Bombay HC Halts Annu Kapoor’s Upcoming Film

Annu Kapoor’s ‘Hamare Baarah’ was originally scheduled to drop on June 7, but the movie’s premiere has been delayed amidst the ongoing controversies. The Bombay HC has shifted the release date to June 14.

Azhar Tamboli was the instigator behind the legal battle, backed by his lawyers Mayur Khandeparkar, Aneesa Cheema, and Rekha Musale. Their issues with the film relate to an alleged misinterpretation of Islamic beliefs and a potential misrepresentation of the Quran. Khandeparkar was particularly vocal about controversial dialogues seen in the movie’s trailer and promotional activities, leading him to question the validity of its U/A rating.

Attorney Advait Sethna, representing the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), confronted the controversies surrounding the film. Asserting that a dedicated CBFC committee meticulously examined the film and recommended specific alterations prior to its approval. Sethna acknowledged the limitations of the CBFC, noting that while it supervises the content of films, its jurisdiction doesn’t extend to trailers and promotional material.

The court managing the case concluded that further deliberation was essential due to the continuing quarrel, thus deferring the hearing to June 10. The court granted leeway to both the movie producers and the plaintiffs to bring up any fresh concerns that might surface.

Annu Kapoor ahead of Hamare Baarah’s release, said, “Working on Humare Baraah has been an incredible journey for me. The film delves into some complex and sensitive topics, and I believe the new title aligns better with our storytelling. I’m excited for audiences to experience the heart and soul of this project on June 7 (sic).”

About ‘Hamare Baarah’

The film’s narration is about Manzoor Ali Khan Sanjari. In the aftermath of his first wife’s untimely demise during childbirth, he sires more children with his second wife, who is now on the brink of welcoming their sixth child. Even when medical professionals caution that the impending birth threatens her life, Sanjari shuns the thought of abortion. This prompts his daughter Alfiya to tenaciously fight for her stepmother’s safety by resorting to the courts and demanding an abortion. The plot intensively explores Alfiya’s battle to persuade both her father and the judiciary, along with a penetrating insight into the entrenched male chauvinism within their society.
