Apple’s Vision Pro is facing some massive production issues, budget version likely to be cancelled

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s production of the Vision Pro might fall short of market expectations. It’s estimated that in 2024, Apple may only ship between 400,000 to 600,000 units, significantly below the anticipated 1 million units. Despite CEO Tim Cook’s assurance of an early 2024 release, there might be limited availability of the device, even in the US.

Kuo speculates that Apple could have abandoned plans for a more affordable Vision Pro model scheduled for a 2025 launch. He cautions that without a substantial price reduction, the expected surge in shipments from 2025 onward may not materialize.

Additionally, it appears unlikely that a second-generation Apple Vision Pro will enter mass production before the first half of 2027. This suggests that there won’t be any imminent hardware updates for the device. Kuo recognizes the product’s potential for delivering an outstanding user experience but raises questions about its market positioning and whether it can become the next standout product in Apple’s lineup.

Based on the maximum production capacity estimates provided by certain component suppliers, it appears that Apple’s Vision Pro shipments for 2024 will likely be limited, ranging from 400,000 to 600,000 units. This falls short of the market’s optimistic expectation of more than 1 million units.

There is speculation that Apple might have abandoned its plans for a cost-effective version of the Vision Pro, which was initially anticipated for a 2025 release. Unless Apple takes significant steps to reduce the price of the Vision Pro, it’s doubtful that the substantial growth in shipments projected for Vision Pro, starting in 2025, will come to fruition.

Furthermore, it seems unlikely that a second-generation Vision Pro, known as the Vision Pro 2, will enter mass production before the first half of 2027. This implies that consumers shouldn’t expect any notable hardware updates for the Vision Pro in the foreseeable future. While the Vision Pro has the potential to offer an exceptional user experience, questions persist regarding its market positioning and whether it will become the next flagship product in Apple’s lineup.
