Barcelona SACK Club Legend Xavi Hernandez After Trophyless Season

Barcelona: FC Barcelona on Friday sacked their Club legend and manager Xavi Hernandez, after the catalans are set to go trophyless in 2023-2024 season. He will take charge of the team for the final time on Saturday against Sevilla.

FC Barcelona in a statement said, “Barcelona President Joan Laporta has informed Xavi Hernández will not be continuing as first team coach in the 2024-25 season.”

A meeting happened at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, attended by sporting vice-president Rafa Yuste, director of sport Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco, Xavi, Òscar Hernández and Sergio Alegre.

The board wished Xavi thanks for his work as a coach as well as his contributions to the club as a player.

In January, Xavi said that he will leave at the end of the season irrespective of the results but few days back after requests from Laporta, Barca legend reconsidered his decision.

Xavi’s comments regarding the club’s financial situation which is preventing them from competing against top clubs like Real Madrid and other European elites, made the club president angry.

Former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick is tipped to replace the Spaniard. Barcelona in their statement said that they will reveal the new first team structure in the coming days.

Barcelona were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Paris Saint Germain in the quartar finals. In La Liga, they currently rank at second behind Real Madrid, who have been crowned the champions of 2023-2024 season. FC Barcelona currently have 82 points, 12 short of the leaders.
