Or not it is really tragic when something terrible happens on a cruise ship and a passenger dies. It also includes incredibly rare.

There won't ever be any official data on this topic, alternatively the Cruise Line Industry Association provided some solid estimates.

A 2018 report from the trade group found that 0.5 of cruise-ship passengers were over age 50 and almost a third of that fifty% were over 70 years old.

"With this age data, and on condition that a median cruise ship carries between Three,000 and 5,000 passengers, the percentages of somebody dying on board are literally no longer remote," the group said. "As it should be, which is miles estimated that around 200 people die on cruise ships each and each year. Some estimates count three deaths on cruise ships per week."

Or not it is a reasonably small number, and despite the truth that it were three or four times higher, the death toll would mean that having somebody die to your cruise should be very rare.

Still, while the cruise lines have done a lot to keep up people safe on board, they could't offer protection to you within the same way once you reach port.

Thanks to this, Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald shared a security warning and some insight with his social media followers.

Cruisers must be cautious when in port

While some ports are safer than others, which is always best to be cautious any time you are in a foreign country. Meaning checking the U.S. State Department's advisories and abiding by them.

For common cruise stops which implies being very careful in, or most likely skipping, Jamaica, while heading off certain areas in Nassau. In both cases, the port areas, which provide stores and restaurants, are on your entire thought to be safe as they're open simplest to cruisers and folks working there.

Heald's warning, alternatively, went in a different direction.

"You may have in mind, over the 25 years I was working onboard the ships there were some tragic and terrible accidents involving hired transportation...specifically in Cozumel," he related. "At home in Cleveland, Ohio, you have you have got your car serviced regularly to allow Mr and Mrs Mechanic to substantiate your car or bike is safe. You adore to know that the brakes work. Or not this may well be important."

On vacation, he noted, individuals are tons less cautious.

"So how come on vacation you are kind of happy to rent something from a corporation often often is often often called El Crapo Rent A Moped whose owner makes you sign all kinds of forms you need to to have the capacity to find a strategy to neither read nor have in mind before you race away from the ship heading for adventure?" he asked. "And then you certainly ride your moped around the island tons too quickly in a pair of buttock-hugging shorts and a pair of sodding flip-flops."

Heald also shared that folk make other bad transportation/vehicle decisions when in a cruise port.

"Most people will have in mind the hazards of less than the influence of alcohol driving and would never ever do it at home. So why then accomplish that many jeep and moped accidents happen after the driver has consumed many shots of tequila at Frogs and Carlos or the Tres Mateos," he asked.

Being on vacation does now no longer offer protection to you

That's easy for folk to feel as if they could be able to set caution aside because they're on vacation.

"Some may say that on vacation and on a Carnival cruise we turned into thrill-seeking, fun-filled people. That’s all thoroughly and good because then we go home to Cleveland, Ohio, and back to an on a everyday basis and perchance monotonous life," Heald said.

"There may most likely be nothing wrong with being thrill-seeking, fun-filled people but please, just make sure to [choose] carefully what you do ashore so which you get to do the arriving home bit," he added.

A lot of the comments on the post supported Heald's advice.

"Such great points John, which is miles so easy to rent these dangerous things in a county where you do no longer know the laws, the roads, etc.," wrote Angie Harris Bourbou.

Some shared personal stories where things went wrong.

"Completely agree. Do now no longer rent the mopeds. It cost us $1,000 to get a member of our group out of moped detention center. No longer saying it wasn’t their fault, alternatively the moped itself used to be now no longer worth that," added Stacey Urban.
