Denmark Prime Minister Attacked In Copenhagen, World Leaders Condemn ‘Cowardly Act Of Aggression’

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen faced a shocking attack in central Copenhagen, leaving her ‘shocked’ and the nation in disbelief. The incident occurred near Frederiksen’s residence, at Kultorvet square, on a Friday evening. The assailant, whose identity and motives remain unknown, physically assaulted the Prime Minister before being arrested by the authorities. The attack, just days before Denmark’s crucial EU election, has sparked concerns and condemnation from various European leaders.

“Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was beaten on Friday evening at Kultorvet in Copenhagen by a man who was subsequently arrested. The Prime Minister is shocked by the incident,” the Prime Minister’s office was quoted as saying by the BBC.

Mette Frederiksen, at the age of 46, made history as the youngest Prime Minister in Denmark after assuming office in 2019. The European Commission chief, Ursula von der Leyen, described the assault as a ‘despicable act’, while European Council President Charles Michel denounced it as a ‘cowardly act of aggression’.

The Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Minister for Foreign Affairs Tobias Billstrom also expressed their condemnation of the attack.
