Disney Takes Ron DeSantis to Court as Feud Escalates

Disney might be all about being cute -- but it's not afraid to fight back.

Disney's  (DIS) - Get Free Report feud with the state of Florida and its Governor is headed to court after the company sued Ron DeSantis on Wednesday. 

Disney's lawsuit claims that DeSantis' decision to take political control of the Reedy Creek Improvement District -- the home of Disney World -- is "patently retaliatory, patently anti-business, and patently unconstitutional."

The lawsuit comes after the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District's board of supervisors met and voted on Wednesday to invalidate a set of agreements Disney made with Reedy Creek earlier this year that would let the company keep control of the board that governs the special business district, an Orlando NBC News affiliate reported.

Before DeSantis' chosen board members took their seats, Disney signed a development agreement with the previous members -- who had been chosen by Disney -- that transferred most of the district's powers to the company, according to NBC.

Disney made that move after the state gave Ron DeSantis the power to appoint all the members of the district's board of supervisors earlier this year as the governor has engaged in an ongoing battle with the company since its previous CEO voiced opposition to the state's so-called "Don't Say Gay" legislation. 

The feud has become more contentious in recent weeks, leading to Jimmy Patronis, Florida's chief financial officer, to pose a veiled threat to the company.
