Fans Urge ICC to Relocate T20 World Cup Matches from Florida Due to Flash Flood Warnings

New Delhi: Cricket fans are demanding the International Cricket Council (ICC) to shift the T20 World Cup 2024 matches away from Florida after flash floods warning in the city. Remarkably, heavy precipitation in South Florida on Wednesday, June 12 left several streets flooded and unsettled the life of the citizens.

Several pictures and video clips of water logging in the city caught the attention of netizens showing roads filled with water. With the current situation, fans are demanding the ICC to move the remaining games scheduled in Florida to New York or Dallas.

Interestingly, three more matches are yet to be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida on June 14, 15 and 16. Two of the remaining games of Group A will have a major effect on the Tournament with USA and Pakistan’s qualification to Super 8 on the stake.

C0-hosts USA will lock horns with Ireland on June 14 in an important Group A clash as a win for the USA will help them to qualify for the Super 8 stage. Even if the match gets washed out, Monank Patel’s side will qualify for the next round having five points to their  name from four matches.

Hence, a washout will prove to be deciding Pakistan’s fate  for qualifying into the Super 8 stage, as they currently stand at the third spot on the points table with just one win from three matches having two points to their name. The Babar Azam-led side is heavily dependent on Ireland to beat the USA in their last fixture to remain in contention for the Super 8.

Although, if Ireland do manage to defeat the USA, Pakistan will also have to win their last game against the Same opponent on June 16. Hence the 2009 champions can’t afford to get their last match washed out as it will lead to their elimination from the tournament.

Pakistan started their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a surprising loss against the USA in the super over. In their second game, they failed to chase a low score of 120 and lost the match by six runs against India. Hence, inclement weather in Florida will take the excitement out of the tournament and will prove to be a huge hurdle in ICC’s attempt to promote the game in the USA.
