World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma reportedly issued multiple challans for overspeeding ahead of India-Bangladesh match

Rohit Sharma had reportedly been issued multiple challans for overspeeding on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway ahead of India’s ICC World Cup match against Bangladesh in Pune.

According to a report on Pune Mirror, India skipper Rohit has been issued three online challans for driving at dizzying speeds in excess of 200kmph, going as far as 215 kmph at one point.

The ‘Hitman’ was driving towards Pune in his blue Lamborghini Urus, which he had acquired last year. India’s upcoming fixture against Bangladesh takes place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, which is on the outskirts of Pune close to the expressway.

Rohit has been in a rich vein of form so far in the World Cup; he was dismissed for a duck in the run chase against Australia, but bounced back with scores of 131 and 86 against Afghanistan and Pakistan respectively.

India, meanwhile, enter their upcoming World Cup match against Bangladesh as the solid favourites, having won each of their three matches so far. The Men in Blue started off with a six-wicket victory over five-time champions Australia before beating Afghanistan and Pakistan by eight and seven wickets respectively.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, started off with a six-wicket win against Afghanistan but would suffer one-sided defeats against England (137 runs) and New Zealand (8 wickets) in their next two matches.

Rohit’s reckless driving will have his fans worried given it’s not even been a year since wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant met with an accident while driving from Delhi to his hometown Roorkee in Uttarakhand.

Pant had crashed his Mercedes AMG GLE 43 Coupe onto the divider near the city of Meerut in the wee hours of 30 December, but ultimately managed to escape from the car before it burst into flames.

Pant was subsequently admitted to hospitals in Dehradun and Mumbai and been making a slow recovery after undergoing a knee surgery. He has been out of action ever since and could potentially miss next year’s Indian Premier League as well.
