From a physiotherapist to making two blockbusters worth Rs 800 crore, the journey of 'Animal' director Sandeep Vanga

Sandeep Reddy Vanga hails from a medical background and before foraying into films, he was a physiotherapist. But it was his passion for cinema that inspired him to be a filmmaker. In one of his interviews, he said, “I worked as an assistant director in a film. After that, I did not get a film for almost 6 years. After 6 years, I got a chance to make ‘Arjun Reddy’. The time in between was very bad as he had to face rejections from producers.”

He has made three films- Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh, and Animal, with the total worth of his Hindi outings being approx Rs 800 crore.

Despite two months of its release and success, Sandeep Reddy Vanga is still speaking about Animal and its polarised responses. After responding to the criticism by Kiran Rao and Javed Akhtar, it seems he took a jibe at Shah Rukh Khan.

At the recently held CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2023, SRK said in his speech, “The heroes I play do good things. They give hope and happiness. If I play a bad guy I make sure he suffers a lot, he dies a dog’s death.”

Vanga told Siddharth Kanan, “People don’t understand what glorification means. They expect the hero to give a lecture in the climax, where he admits to all his mistakes, they expect him to die a dog’s death.”

Vanga said, “It’s very clear in that comment that he did not see the entire film. Now, if someone is talking without watching the film, what can I say about them?”
