Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed international leaders on Saturday at Bharat Mandapam, where the G20 conference will begin shortly.

The first to arrive were UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director and Chairman Kristalina Georgieva, and World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came at the newly constructed Pragati Maidan site as well.

Modi greeted the global leaders in front of a copy of the Konark Wheel, a 13th-century object that represents time, development, and constant change.

According to a draught seen by Reuters, G20 negotiators were unable to overcome concerns over the language of the summit declaration on the Ukraine crisis on Friday, leaving any possible breakthrough to bloc leaders during the two-day conference.

The 38-page draught sent among members left the "geopolitical situation" paragraph blank, but it had agreed on the other 75 articles, which addressed climate change, cryptocurrency, and multilateral development bank changes.

Because of divisions over the conflict, G20 sherpas have been arguing for days to agree on a language, hoping to get Russia on board to draught a communiqué.
