George Clooney, Emma Stone, Scarlett Johansson get involved in negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP

The writers and actors’ strike in Hollywood that lasted for over 97 days came to an end recently after months of negotiations and demands. One of the threats looming large was the rising reliance on Artificial Intelligence and lack of equal pay. However, certain issues still persist. And several Hollywood A-listers have joined in to negotiate between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP as per a report by Deadline.

Some of them are names like George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, and Emma Stone. The Hollywood A-listers were present on a meeting via Zoom and Clooney reportedly spoke to SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher and chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland about why the negotiations fell apart.

Statement by SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists)

They said, “ We meet with members of all profiles every day, and we won’t be commenting on those private conversations.”

Statement by AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers)

The gap between the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA is too great, and conversations are no longer moving us in a productive direction

The return of the late night shows

Late-night talk shows began their return to the air after a five-month absence brought on by the Hollywood writers strike, while actors completed the first day of talks that could end their own long work walk-off.

CBS’s “ The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” ABC’s “ Jimmy Kimmel Live! ” and NBC’s “ The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon ” were the first shows to leave the air when the writers strike began on May 2, and were among the first to return with fresh airings.

Colbert blew a leaping kiss to his audience, which chanted his name as he took the stage at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York for the early evening taping of his show that airs at 11:35 p.m. Eastern.
