Golden Globes 2024: From Christopher Nolan remembering Heath Ledger To Kylie-Timothée's kiss, top moments from the night

The 81st Golden Globe Awards, which were held on Sunday, 7 January 2024, marked one of the first major award shows since the end of the Hollywood strikes. While the A-listers showed up looking their best, host J. Koy also spent a good chunk of his time entertaining the audience.

Tuning into the Golden Globes means more than just catching glimpses of the stars, as we had some clear frontrunners and also an idea of what the Oscars might have in store. That being said, the 2024 Golden Globes have their equal share of new lows and of course, a handful of highs.

Top moments from the 2024 Golden Globes

1- Ali Wong’s Shoutout To Ex-Husband

Beginning with actress Ali Wong’s sweet shoutout to her ex-husband, the actress, while accepting her first award for Best Actress in a Limited Series (Beef), Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television, made a special mention for her ex-husband Justin Hakuta. Thanking him, she said, “I really need to thank the father of my children and my best friend Justin for all your love and support. It’s because of you that I am able to be a working mother.”

2. Christopher Nolan Remembers Heath Ledger

One of the most talked-about and unmissable moments was Christopher Nolan remembering the late Heath Ledger while winning his first Golden Globes for Best Director of a Motion Picture for Oppenheimer. While receiving the award, he began by taking a moment to pay tribute to the late actor, who featured in his 2008 film, The Dark Knight. “The only time I have ever been on this stage before was accepting one of these on behalf of our dear friend, Heath Ledger, and that was complicated and challenging for me,” Nolan said, further mentioning Robert Downey Jr. and expressing his admiration and love for the actor.

3. Kylie-Timothee’s PDA

While the Globes were all about big wins, there was also a bit of PDA, as witnessed in between the seats. Lovebirds Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet did not walk the carpet together; however, they did reunite during the ceremony, as they were spotted stealing a kiss. The Wonka star was nominated for his role in the latest iteration of the beloved Roald Dahl story.

4. Selena-Taylor Swift Reunion

Besties Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift were also seen reuniting at the star-studded evening on Sunday. While both were nominees at the ceremony, pictures show them posing for the camera as Gomez made sure to make a stop at Taylor Swift’s chair. Besides that, they were also spotted sharing a hug.

5. ‘Suits’ Cast Reunites

It was a big treat for all ‘Suits’ fans as the cast reunited for the 81st Golden Globes on Sunday. Notably, actors Patrick J Adams, Gina Torres, Sarah Rafferty, and Gabrielle Macht were there to present the cast of Succession with the award for Best Drama Series. Apart from them, Meghan Markle and Rick Hoffman were also present on the show; however, they didn’t appear in the mini-reunion.

6. Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell’s Bizarre Dance

One of the most hilarious moments captured during the ceremony was when Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell tried to deliver their introduction before presenting the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. As they struggled to complete their intros, their “favourite song” continued to interrupt them. However, what caught our attention was that they finally accepted their date and started grooving to the melody.

7. Robert Downey Jr.’s Jab At The Journalists

Robert Downey Jr., who received a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in Oppenheimer, was pretty prepared to take a jab at the ‘Golden Globe journalists’. During his acceptance speech, RDJ began by thanking them for “changing your game and therefore changing your names.”

8. Lily Gladstone’s Win

At a time when it is very rare for Indigenous actors to play lead roles in Hollywood, Lily Gladstone made history by winning a Golden Globe last Sunday. With her achievement, Lilly became the first Indigenous actor to win an award in the ceremony’s history of 81 years. Notably, she took home the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her role in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
