Govinda reveals he rejected films worth Rs 100 crore last year: 'I was slapping myself'

Known as the ‘swag man’ of Bollywood, Govinda is one of the most popular and highest-paid actors of his time. The actor won millions of hearts with his acting prowess in the 90s when veterans like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor among others ruled the box office. While Anil Kapoor and Big B continue to smash records in the industry, a name that faded from the silver screens off late is that of Govinda.

It has been quite a while since the Joru ka Ghulam actor took a break from the lights-camera-action world. Well, now, amid speculations that the actor is not getting enough work, Govinda interacted with paparazzi on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi and revealed that he left projects worth a whopping Rs 100 crore last year.

The coolest person with all smiles, during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations with his family, interacted with the media and said, “I don’t accept work easily. But the people who think I’m not getting work, I would like to tell them ‘Mujhpe kripa hai Bappa ki’ (Lord Ganesh’s blessings are upon me.) I have left projects worth Rs 100 crore last year.”

He added that he was slapping himself in front of the mirror because he was not signing any projects. The actor revealed that the filmmakers were offering a lot of money but he did not want to do any random roles. He wanted something of at par with the level that he has set in the past.

Earlier, after the massive success of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar 2, Ameesha Patel told an entertainment news portal that director Anil Sharma originally wanted Mamta Kulkarni and Govinda as Sakina and Tara Singh. She said, “I was cast as Sakina by Zee, not Mr Anil Sharma. For me, Gadar was always about Sunny, and for Zee and in fact, Nitin Keni was the reason I was in Gadar part 1. Anil Sharma preferred Mamta Kulkarni over me and wanted Govinda as Tara, but Zee wanted Sunny.”

Talking about his personal life, Govinda tied the knot with Sunita on 11 March, 1987. The couple are blessed with two kids, Tina Ahuja and Yashvardhan Govinda. The celebrated actor, who gave hits like Hero No. 1, Coolie No. 1, Raja Babu and more, was last seen essaying a double role of Vijendra Pratap Singh and Ajay Pratap Singh in the film, Rangeela Raja in 2019.
