Grammys 2024: PM Modi's 'Abundance of Millets' loses to Zakir Hussain's 'Pashto' at the award ceremony

The popular song featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech called ‘Abundance in Millets’ was nominated for the Grammy Awards under the Best Global Music Performance category. Amid a lot of excitement and expectations regarding the song, it lost the Grammy to Zakir Hussain’s ‘Pashto’, also contending in the same category. The group, including Bela Fleck, Zakir Hussain, Edgar Meyer, and Rakesh Chaurasia, while striking gold at the 66th annual Grammy Awards, won the award for Best Global Music Performance for the track.

PM Modi’s song ‘Abundance of Millets’

Notably, PM Modi had collaborated with American-Indian singers Falu and Gaurav Shah for the special song ‘Abundance in Millets‘. It was created to promote the benefits of millets and was released in June last year during the celebration of the International Year of Millets.

The song includes parts of a speech that was delivered by PM Modi while greeting the Global Millets Conference in March last year. Addressing the event in Delhi, PM Modi said, “I am glad that today, as the world is celebrating ‘International Millet Year’, India is leading this campaign,” adding that with the efforts of the farmers and citizens, ‘Shree Anna’ will add a “new dimension to the prosperity of India and the world.”

Zakir Hussain bags 3 GRAMMYs

Apart from winning the Best Global Music Performance, musician Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain’s fusion band ‘Shakhi‘ also won a Grammy award for Best Global Music Album for their latest release, ‘This Moment’. On the X platform, Grammy, while congratulating the entire team, shared a picture of the historic moment.
