Hardik Pandya to miss India's match against New Zealand in World Cup 2023

Hardik Pandya will miss India’s next World Cup 2023 match against New Zealand due to the ankle injury he suffered in the Bangladesh game. The India vs New Zealand game will take place on 22 October (Sunday) in Dharamsala.

The BCCI in a medical update on Friday said that the all-rounder has been advised to rest and as a result will not be travelling with the team to Dharamsala. He will join Team India in Lucknow before the England game on 29 October.

Some media reports had also suggested that Pandya would be travelling to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for the treatment. But BCCI in its statement only said that the player will be under the supervision of the medical team.

“The all-rounder was taken for scans and is advised rest. He will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20th October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India play England,” the BCCI statement read.

Pandya injured his ankle while trying to stop a straight drive from Litton Das off his own bowling. The all-rounder stretched his right foot to stop the ball but slipped to the ground and in the process twisted his ankle.

He was forced to leave the field immediately and was taken for scans. After India’s seven-wicket win, captain Rohit Sharma had said that there was no major damage.

“He pulled up a bit sore. There is no major damage, that is good for us. But obviously with an injury like that, we have to assess every day and we will do whatever is required,” Rohit said.
