Heatwave Weather Update: North India is dealing with severe heatwave conditions, with maximum temperatures reaching above 47 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Delhi reached 47.4 degrees Celsius, the highest in the country, on Monday. In view of the severe conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Chandigarh, stating that the heatwave conditions will continue for a few days. The weather department also forecasted heatwave conditions in states like Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra, and Kutch.

Weather Update: Rain Alert

Meanwhile, IMD has issued a Red alert for Tuesday and Wednesday for heavy rainfall for three districts in Kerala – Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki. The state government said that the emergency operations in all districts are going on to deal with possible landslide and epidemics.
Additionally southern parts of the country – Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday. IMD has issued an Orange alert for the regions.

In Delhi, a sweltering heatwave has caused an unprecedented surge in power demand this May, hitting the highest-ever levels recorded, as stated by the local power distributing company’s officials to ANI news agency. With the relentless summer heat, the Delhi government has swiftly instructed all schools, both private and those supported by the government, which haven’t yet commenced their summer holidays, to kickstart them without further hesitation. The Education Directorate has sent out a notification, mandating every school to enter into their summer break from May 11 to June 30 of the existing academic year.

Heatwave: Man dies due to heatwave in Kota

In Kota, Rajasthan, a man originally from Uttar Pradesh tragically succumbed to a severe heatwave, as reported by news agency PTI via police sources. The departed individual, a 44-year-old man named Mahendra Kushwah from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, was discovered near a local hotel in Kota’s Dadwada neighbourhood on Sunday evening.

It’s inferred by the police that the culminating factor in Kushwah’s passing was the sweltering heatwave experienced on that particular day. Rajasthan continues to endure fierce heat, as recorded by the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, with Pilani, found in Jhunjhunu district, observing the state’s highest temperature of a searing 46.6 degrees Celsius.
