'He is in good shape': Sourav Ganguly says Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant ready to make IPL comeback in 2024

India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is on track to make his Indian Premier League (IPL) return in 2024, former captain and Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly said on Thursday.

Pant has been out of action since sustaining multiple injuries in a freak accident in December 2022 while driving to his hometown in Rourkee.

As a result, Pant has missed major tournaments this year, including the World Test Championship (WTC) final, IPL 2023 and the ongoing Cricket World Cup.

However, Pant has showed improvement since the accident and in August, he was seen batting.

According to India Today, Pant is in Kolkata where the Delhi Capitals are holding a training camp. A few DC players have begun training at the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) ground at Jadavpur University campus.

“Rishabh Pant is in good shape. He will play from next season. He will not practice now. He is here till 11th November. We had a discussion about the team with Pant as he is the captain of the team, considering the upcoming auctions,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today.

Rishabh Pant has been leading Delhi Capitals (DC) since the 2021 IPL season, but earlier this year, it was David Warner who led the team in Pant’s absence.

Pant made his IPL debut in 2016 when the Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils) took on Gujarat Lions, and has so far gone onto play a total of 98 matches in the competition, having scored 2838 runs.

The auction for the IPL 2024 season is scheduled to be held in Dubai on 19 December.
