India vs Afghanistan: Head-to-head, individual records and other key stats ahead of T20I series

The 2024 T20 World Cup, to be hosted in West Indies and the United States of America, is drawing closer than ever. The tournament starts from 1 June, with the final in Barbados on 29 June, and it will be perfect opportunity for Team India to end their ICC trophy drought. India’s last ICC trophy came in 2013, when the MS Dhoni-led outfit beat England to clinch the ICC Champions Trophy. In November last year, the Men in Blue under Rohit Sharma had the chance to end that drought when they reached the ODI World Cup final, where they lost to Australia.

India’s most recent T20I assignment was a three-match series against South Africa in the Rainbow Nation in December, where the two teams shared spoils 1-1 after the first T20I in Durban was abandoned due to rain.

And although the T20 World Cup is still five months away, their upcoming three-match series against Afghanistan will provide the final opportunity for the Men in Blue to perform as a unit and get the combinations right ahead of the tournament, with a five-Test series against England and the Indian Premier League (IPL) scheduled after this.

India vs Afghanistan head-to-head in T20Is

Both India and Afghanistan have met five times in T20Is since their first meeting at the 2010 World T20 in West Indies. India emerged victorious by seven wickets in that match, with Ashish Nehra starring with figures of 3/19 and Murali Vijay top scoring with 48 runs. Since then, India have gone onto win three more matches against the Afghans, with the Asian Games final between the two sides in Hangzhou last year ending without a result, although India went onto win gold due to their superior ranking.
