India vs England: Injury scare for hosts as star batter gets hit on wrist in nets

India are already without star batter Virat Kohli for the first two Test against England and amid this Shreyas Iyer on Tuesday suffered a blow on his right wrist during practice ahead of the Hyderabad Test. As per Revsportz, Iyer got hit on his right wrist while taking throwdowns. He tried to bat again but wasn’t able to because of the pain and had to walk out of the nets to apply ice on the injury.

The good news, however, is that he was seen batting again in nets after suffering the blow to his wrist. This is an indication that he may have recovered amply to play in the first Test of the five-match series which begins at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on 25 January.

Iyer is going to be crucial for India as Kohli is missing and the Mumbai batter is expected to bat at No. 4 with KL Rahul taking his spot at No. 5. Coach Rahul Dravid confirmed on Tuesday that Rahul will not keep, which means KS Bharat is expected to bat at No. 6.

Iyer did not have a good time in South Africa where he scored 4 runs in four innings but former India captain Sunil Gavaskar feels that the right-hander will be back in form in the Test series.

“In the World Cup, Shreyas Iyer batted brilliantly in Indian pitches, so I’m hoping he’ll play similarly at No.5 in the Test series. He batted aggressively, was quite watchful at the start and then his stroke-making after reading the pitch was a delight to watch. I hope he’ll replicate that,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
