Internet back in Manipur as govt lifts ban after 6 days

Imphal: The Manipur government on Monday restored cyber web and mobile data services and products after reviewing the present law and order situation within the state. The State’s Home Department issued an order lifting the suspension of cyber web and mobile data services and products, including VSAT and VPN services and products, in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts. The suspension, which had been extended until September 20, has now been revoked.

The order stated, “Whereas, the State Government, via order No. H3607/four/2022-HD-HD(Pt.) (!) dated September 10, 2024, suspended cyber web and mobile data services and products, including Lease Lines, VSAT, broadband and VPN services and products within the territorial jurisdiction of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts of Manipur for 5 days with effect from three:00 PM on September 10, 2024, and as a result extended till three:00 PM on September 20, 2024, vide an order of even number dated September 15, 2024. Whereas, the State Government reviewed this suspension and conditionally lifted it for Broadband (ILL & FTTH) services and products via order No. H-1701/181/2023-HD-HD-Part (1) dated September 12, 2024.”

“Whereas, after reviewing the present law and order situation, the State Government has determined to lift the temporary suspension of all cyber web services and products in Manipur, which became imposed as a safety measure within the general public interest,” it added.

Previously, the state government had imposed an cyber web ban starting on September 10 for 5 days. Even though the ban became originally set to finish on Sunday, it became extended thanks to the law and order situation.

On September 13, DIG Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Manish Kumar Sachar visited Thangkanphai village in Kangpokpi district and Songpehjang relief camp in Saikul Hilltown, where he interacted with representatives of the Kuki community.

Chatting with ANI, DIG Sachar mentioned that over 100 families are living within the relaxation camp and that their handiest desire is to get back to their normal lives.
