IPL 2024 auction could be held outside India, new venue almost finalised: Report

The auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) may be relocated outside of India. According to a report on Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating Dubai as the new venue for the event. The potential dates for this event are between 15 and 19 December. Prior to the IPL auctions, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction is scheduled for 9 December. While the exact location for the WPL auction has not been finalised, reports indicate that it will likely take place in India.

The report added that no formal notification has been issued to the franchises, but there is growing speculation within the cricket community that the IPL auction will be held in Dubai, with 18 or 19 December being the most likely dates.

It’s worth noting that the BCCI had considered hosting the previous year’s auction in Istanbul but ultimately conducted it in Kochi.

The trading window for IPL is currently open but no transfer has been made so far.

Following the success of the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League, the BCCI is planning an expanded second season. However, the board has not yet provided team owners with information regarding the venue and dates for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction. Reports suggest that the league could be scheduled for February this year.

In the previous season, the entire league was held in Mumbai. Teams are awaiting confirmation on whether the WPL will be hosted in a single city, as before, or if it will take place in multiple locations this time.
