North Gaza hospitals 'out of service' as fighting rages

The Hamas-run health ministry announced on Monday that the number of patients dying in the largest medical centre had increased and that the facilities in the epicentre of the fiercest fighting in northern Gaza had been forced to close due to shortages and fighting.

Israel maintains that Hamas adversaries have tunnelled beneath the Al-Shifa hospital complex to establish their military headquarters, despite UN agencies and medical personnel within the facility alerting them to the fact that civilians, including infants, were dying as a result of the fierce fighting.

The sound of gunshots reverberated throughout the expansive Al-Shifa hospital, located in the centre of Gaza City, which is currently a conflict zone, amid reports of increased "violent fighting" from witnesses during the course of the night.

Thousands flee Gaza's main hospital but hundreds, including babies, still trapped by fighting

As Israeli forces and Palestinian militants battle outside Gaza's largest hospital, thousands of civilians appear to have escaped. However, hundreds of patients—including dozens of babies who could die from a shortage of electricity—remain inside, according to health officials on Monday.

Reconciling conflicting reports from the Israeli military, which claimed it was offering a safe path for people to move south, and Palestinian health officials inside the hospital, who claimed the compound was ringed by continuous heavy gunfire, was challenging with only sporadic communications.

The military added that although it had stationed 300 litres of fuel close to the hospital to assist in powering its generators, Hamas terrorists had blocked personnel from getting to it. In Gaza, which is run by Hamas, the Health Ministry refuted that, claiming that the fuel would have only produced energy for less than one hour.

Dubai Air Show opening as aviation soars following pandemic lockdowns, even as wars cloud horizon

Opening on Monday is the biennial Dubai Air Show, which comes at a time when airlines are about to buy big aircraft after recovering from the coronavirus pandemic and regional security is being threatened by Israel's conflict with Hamas.

The five-day event at Dubai World Central's Al Maktoum Airport is probably going to be impacted by that conflict as well as Russia's war against Ukraine. It is the city-state's second airport after Dubai International Airport, the busiest international airport in the world and the base of operations for long-haul airline Emirates.

The majority of the focus is on commercial aircraft, although there are also exhibits from arms manufacturers at the expo. Participating are Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Ltd. and Israel Aerospace Industries, two significant Israeli companies.

For news organizations, the flood of Gaza war video is proving both illuminating and troubling

Light streaks are captured by a webcam that is livestreaming Gaza City's skyline. An Israeli car's dashcam footage shows a murderer approaching. A security camera at a shopping centre captures the instant an explosive device detonates in Gaza, and a satellite detects tank tracks in the earth.

Although there is little access for journalists to cover the Gaza War, a wealth of video from various sources captures what is and isn't happening.

Sorting through internet content to identify what is authentic and to find the occasionally surprising hints that might be utilised to connect stories is becoming a more crucial — and frequently emotionally taxing — task for news organisations.

“It has become a key part of doing journalism in the modern age,” said Katie Polglase, a London-based investigative producer for CNN.

Israel, Hamas spar over fuel shortage at Gaza's largest hospital

Three premature newborns and four other patients lost their lives when the sole generator in Gaza's largest hospital ran out of fuel on Saturday, the Health Ministry said. It said that 36 more babies could not survive.

The Israeli military said that it arranged for hospital personnel to oversee the transfer of 300 litres of fuel, which it left overnight close to Shifa for an emergency generator that powers preterm infants' incubators. However, the military claimed that Hamas stopped the fuel from getting to the hospital.

A Health Ministry spokesperson, Ashraf al-Qidra, disputed the account and also told Al Jazeera the fuel would not be enough to operate the generator an hour. “This is a mockery towards the patients and children,” Al-Qidra said.

Largest Gaza hospital 'not functioning' amid Israeli assault

The president of the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared on Sunday that while the fierce Israeli assault on the Hamas-controlled strip continues, the major hospital in Gaza has shut down and patient deaths are on the rise.

Medical personnel report that three newborns have died at Shifa and that others are at risk of dying from power shortages due to the intensive fighting nearby. Hospitals in the northern part of the Palestinian enclave, such as the al-Shifa complex, are besieged by Israeli forces and are hardly able to provide for the needs of those inside.

Hamas' real plan for 7 October was to go deep into Israel's territory, says report

The Washington Post, citing intelligence officials, said that new data indicated Hamas terrorists were ready to infiltrate far into Israeli territory, potentially reaching the border in the far east and the West Bank.

A few days after abstaining from a separate resolution that demanded an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict in order to allow aid to enter the besieged Gaza Strip without restriction, India made a significant move by voting in favour of a resolution in the UN General Assembly denouncing Israel’s settlement activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Fourteen countries voted against the resolution, including the US. This comes after top diplomat Antony Blinken acknowledged that “far too many Palestinians have been killed” and that “more needs to be done to protect civilians and provide them with humanitarian aid” in one of the strongest US condemnations of the death toll resulting from Israel’s shelling of Gaza.

Meanwhile, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu earlier hit back at the global criticism over reports of civilian death in Gaza and reiterated his vow to defeat Hamas and pledged to ‘stand firm against the world if necessary’.

The Israeli military said it offered 300 litres of fuel to the al-Shifa, the largest hospital in Gaza, amid reports of the deaths of three premature babies due after the hospital’s last generator that powered the incubators ran out of fuel. But Hamas prevented the hospital from receiving the fuel, the Israel Defence Force said.
