Jeff Bezos's Camp Reportedly Thinks He Might Have Been Used in the Commanders Pending Sale

The Amazon owner was reportedly used as a way to drive up price.

Jeff Bezos explored purchasing the Washington Commanders last February, but ultimately decided against it. And the NFL franchise is now off the market — at a record price.

Controversial Dan Snyder has agreed in principle to sell the Washington Commanders for an NFL record $6 billion to Josh Harris, owner of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s New Jersey Devils.

The Denver Broncos were sold last year for a then-record $4.65 billion to an ownership group led by the Walton family, who are known for owning Walmart.

Bezos’ camp believed he may have been used to push up the price of the Commanders, according to Front Office Sports.

It was also believed that Snyder didn’t want to sell to Bezos because of his ownership in The Washington Post, an outlet that has led in exposing the NFL owner’s misconduct. It is believed the Amazon (AMZN) - Get Free Report owner was allowed to bid, but had to go above and beyond finalists like Harris.

The sale to Harris will be finalized after league approval and acceptance from at least three quarter of the rest of the 31 NFL owners, who will converge in late May.

Other NFL team owners have against Snyder’s franchise ownership for a while now, confirmed by Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay explicitly saying Snyder “needs to be removed.”

Snyder announced via spokesperson in November that he was “exploring all options” for the franchise, which included selling the team, amid a slew of allegations of sexual harassment and financial improprieties against Snyder and top executives with the franchise.
