Karan Johar opens up on 'depressive episode during NMACC launch, says 'went home and wept in bed'
Karan Johar is back with a bang with his much-loved Koffee With Karan Season 8. The first episode of the hit chat show saw real-life pair Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone hitting the couch.
The Pathaan actress, who has never shied away from opening up about her mental health issues, also got KJo talking over the same. Karan Johar revealed that he had a severe depressive episode during the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) launch in April this year.

Recalling the NMACC episode, Karan said, “The legit attack I had was at the NMACC launch. I remember Varun (Dhawan) was staring at me. I was sweating, I didn’t even realise. He came to me, held my hand and asked ‘Are you okay?’ And my hands were shaking.”
The director went on to add that Varun Dhawan took him to a room where he tried to relax. Karan further mentioned that he first thought it was a cardiac arrest and eventually left the event in half an hour. “And then he took me to an empty room. I first thought it was a cardiac arrest. I didn’t know what I was going through. I got out of my jacket, which was long and elaborate. I just left in half an hour. I went back home and I just went to my bed and I cried. I didn’t know why I was crying,” the filmmaker stated.
Karan Johar concluded saying that he had to consult his psychologist, who put him on medication and that he is doing fine now.
In this KWK episode, Deepika Padukone too threw light on her own experience with depression, something she has frequently been vocal about. She elaborated on how her husband Ranveer Singh stood by her side through thick and thin.
Karan Johar on professional front
On the work front, Karan Johar’s last directorial Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani earned much praise from both audience and critics. The film starred Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles and was released in theatres in July this year.
