Laapataa Ladies Outshines Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal on Netflix in Viewership, Garnered 13.8 Million Views

Kiran Rao’s film Laapataa Ladies won the hearts of the audience. The storyline of the film had it all – emotions, love, struggle and teachings. After the film was released on big screens, the makers also premiered the film on OTT giant Netflix. Like theatres, audiences have loved the movies on OTT platforms also. The film achieved a significant milestone with 13.8 million views, surpassing Animal, which was released on the same platform earlier on January 26, 2024.

The news of Laapataa Ladies outperforming Animal immediately made headlines. Several users took to Reddit and expressed their excitement about the film’s success. Users also asked others to watch the movie. A user praised the film saying, “It’s become very popular in the UK. All my local friends loved it. They have only watched movies like Bahubali. Helmed by Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan’s ex-wife, Laapata Ladies is an adaptation of Biplab Goswami’s award-winning novel. The plot of the movie revolves around two married women who mysteriously disappear during a train journey, leading to a series of twists and turns in their lives. The movie features actors Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Ravi Kishan in the lead roles.

Additionally, the film’s success coincides with a verbal spat between Kiran Rao and Sandeep Reddy Vanga, director of ‘Animal.‘ In an interview with The Quint, Rao clarified that her earlier remarks on misogyny and the portrayal of women in films were general and not specifically aimed at Vanga’s work, as she had not seen his films. In response, Vanga criticized her comments, suggesting she misunderstood the intent of his films.
