Meet Anshul Kamboj – Mumbai Indians’ Unluckiest Bowler Who Dismissed Travis Head Twice On IPL Debut

New Delhi: More than his debut in the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians pacer Anshul Kamboj will be remembered for being the most unluckiest bowler, not once but twice, and that too against the like of Travis Head, who had taken IPL 2024 by storm with his batting exploits at the top. Playing for pride after losing eight of their 11 games so far in the ongoing edition, Mumbai Indians handed Kamboj the debut cap against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

Kamboj, who plays domestic cricket for Haryana, started off conceding 14 runs in his first over. Given the ball again in the fifth over, the right-arm pacer showed why he earned the faith of his captain and the management when he uprooted Head’s off-stump with a fuller delivery. However, to his utter disappointment, the umpires called it no-ball as Kamboj overstepped.

The 23-year-old Kamboj had the chance to get Head’s wicket once again in the eighth over when Nuwan Thushara put down a simple chance at third-man boundary. But he didn’t have to wait for long as Kamboj uprooted Mayank Agarwal’s off-stump for his maiden IPL wicket. He celebrated with a folded hands gesture. Head was eventually dismissed by Piyush Chawla for 48.

Who Is Anshul Kamboj?

Born in Karnal, Haryana, Kamboj grabbed the limelight with his heroics 2023-24 Vijay Hazare Trophy by picking 17 wickets in 10 games, thereby helping his team to the title. Before that, Kamboj had represented India at the U-19 level.

The all-rounder also became the second Indian player to debut for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 after Naman Dhir. Kamboj was picked up by Mumbai Indians during the players auction that took place in Dubai last year for his base price of Rs 20 lakhs. Earlier, Kamboj has been a part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru setup as a net bowler.
