The film industry is one sector where now not most effective actors but besides producers can rake in substantial profits. If a movie is loved by the audience, there’s a high probability of earning double the investment. Many may assume that major production houses like Dharma Productions, owned by Karan Johar, Bhansali Productions Private Limited by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and Yash Raj Films, are at the tip, making KJo, SLB, and Yash Johar the richest filmmakers. However it, in a surprising twist, none of them hold the title of the richest director within the industry—or even within the United States. Interestingly, the wealthiest filmmaker in India is a person who largely stays at the back of the camera and away from the limelight. His net worth is a staggering $three.6 billion.

The richest filmmaker in India is none instead of Kalanithi Maran, a business wealthy person once considered India’s Bill Gates. In accordance with a report by Forbes, the filmmaker and business magnate has a net worth of $three.6 billion (₹30,289 crore). Maran owns Sun Group, a media conglomerate that operates 37 TV channels and owns the film production company Sun Pictures. Through Sun Pictures, Maran has delivered among the many largest hits in Indian cinema history, including Enthiran, Petta, Beast, Jailer, and Raayan.

Who is Kalanithi Maran?

Born on July 24, 1964, Kalanithi Maran hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and is the son of former Union Minister Murasoli Maran. Coming from a politically influential family, Maran can be the grand-nephew of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. His younger brother, Dayanidhi Maran, served as a Union Minister to boot.

Kalanithi’s entrepreneurial journey began in 1990 when he inherited a small business from his father. He later founded Sun TV, which has since grown right into a limiteless media empire with a big net worth. As well as to his media ventures, Maran diversified his business portfolio by owning two cricket teams—Sunrisers Hyderabad within the Indian Premier League and Sunrisers Eastern Cape within the South Africa T20 League. He also holds major shares within the airline SpiceJet.
