Odisha CM News: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday named Mohan Majhi as the new Chief Minister of Odisha. Majhi will take oath on June 12. KV Singh Deo and  Prabhati Parida have been appointed as the Deputy Chief Ministers of the state. Hours after being named as the chief minister of the state, the CM-designate Majhi met Governor Raghubar Das at the Raj Bhawan along with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

“Delighted to announce that Shri Mohan Charan Manjhi has been elected unanimously as the leader of Odisha BJP Legislature Party. He is a young and dynamic party karyakarta who will take the state forward on road to progress and prosperity as the new Chief Minister of Odisha. Many congratulations to him,” Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said.

“Also, it has been decided that two Deputy Chief Ministers will be designated to head the new State Government. Shri KV Singh Deo and Smt. Pravati Parida will serve the state as Deputy Chief Minister. Congratulations to them!,” he added.

Pravati Parida, who has been named as Odisha Deputy Chief Minister, confirmed that BJP is going to Raj Bhavan today. “We are going to the Raj Bhawan. There will be good governance in the state. People of Odisha have faith in Modi ji’s guarantee,” Parida said.

Mohan Charan Majhi, 52, defeated Mina Majhi of the BJD by 11,577 votes from the Keonjhar assembly constituency. The chief whip of the BJP in the previous assembly, he was elected to the assembly for the fourth time.

KV Singh Seo who was named a deputy chief minister defeated Saroj Kumar Meher of the BJD by 1357 votes from Patnagarh, while the other deputy CM Pravati Parida beat BJD leader Dilip Kumar Nayak by 4588 votes from Nimapara.

The new government will take oath at Janata Maidan here on Wednesday.

Preparations Underway

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, central ministers and chief ministers of many BJP-ruled states are likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony. The p reparations are in the final stage at the Janata Maidan park, the venue for the event.

The Odisha government has already declared that all the state government offices and courts in state capital Bhubaneswar will shut after 1 pm on Wednesday due to the swearing-in of new chief minister and the cabinet.

According to a PTI report, the new government will be sworn in on June 12 at 5 pm. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive at the state capital at 2:30 pm and proceed to Raj Bhavan from the airport. He will later attend the oath-taking ceremony at Janata Maidan at 5 pm.
