Pak Citizen Charged With Plotting ISIS-Inspired Terrorist Attack In New York, Arrested in Canada

New York: A Pakistani national who plotted to kill as many Jewish people as which you may imagine in New York City became arrested in Canada. He became charged with attempting to present material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), the U. S. Department of Justice said on Friday. The 20-year-old accused, identified as Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, planned a terrorist attack in New York around October 7, specially concentrated on Jewish residents of the city, Attorney General Merrick B. As alleged throughout the complaint, Khan, attempted to commute from Canada to New York City, where he intended to carry out a mass shooting in support of ISIS at a Jewish center in Brooklyn, New York. Khan began posting on social media and communicating with others on an encrypted messaging application about his support for ISIS in or about November 2023, when, among other things, Khan distributed ISIS propaganda videos and literature. As a result, he began communicating with two undercover law enforcement officers, the statement said.

Khan over and over instructed the undercover law enforcement officers to obtain AR-style assault rifles, ammunition, and other materials to carry out the attacks, and identified locations where the attacks would happen. Khan also provided details about how he would cross the border from Canada into the United States to conduct the attacks. At some stage in these conversations, Khan emphasised that “Oct seventh and Oct Eleventh are the right days for concentrated on the Jews” because October 7 is the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel. October Eleven is Yom Kippur, a Jewish spiritual holiday.
