Permanent Roommates Season 3 review: Sumeet Vyas and Nidhi Singh's show is a sparkling take on complicated relationships

Cast: Sumeet Vyas, Nidhi Singh, Deepak Kumar Mishra, Shishir Sharma, Sheeba Chaddha, Ayesha Raza Mishra

Director: Shreyansh Pandey

Language: Hindi

It has been almost a decade since we first met Sumeet Vyas and Nidhi Singh in Permanent Roommates as Mikesh and Tanya. TVF has always created content that hits home truths and created characters that felt instantly relatable and relevant. This show is about two diametrically opposite yet connected individuals that destiny unites in the most charming and amusing ways. The minds maybe poles apart, the souls are always meant to be with and for each other.

In season three, Tanya wishes to settle abroad, Canada to be precise, and Mikesh is not too sure. He says they can go for a holiday. The conflict this time is a difference of opinion and how the respective families intervene. But the show steers clear of melodrama while keeping that very conflict at the center of attention. By now, both Sumeet Vyas and Nidhi Singh have lived their characters long enough to become them again every time a new season springs up. By now, they feel like one of us, a couple whose chaos is something that’s always around us.

But writer Biswapati Sarkar, director Shreyansh Pandey, and creator Arunabh Kumar choose a frolic approach to tell a story so driven by mayhem and madness. What’s more engaging about the show is the choice of actors. Sheeba Chaddha and Shishir Sharma are an absolute hoot, and it would be lovely to see more of them in future. What’s more interesting is to see how far Mikesh and Tanya’s story can go; from wooing to rejections to union to multiple conflicts, they have been through it all. What next? Since they are permanent roommates, the frictions may have to be permanent too I guess.
