London: It was a night to remember for Real Madrid in London’s Wembley as they beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 on Sunday to clinch the UEFA Champions League 2024 title. For Madrid, it was Dani Carvajal, Vinicius Junior who scored and that was enough for them as they maintained a clean-sheet in the summit clash.
It was Carvajal who broke the deadlock in the 74th-minute of the contest. Soon after that opening strike, Madrid doubled the lead as Junior found the back of the net. Once Junior scored, it was like the final nail in the coffin.
Dortmund put up a good show but it was not good enough on the night that mattered. Also, Madrid lived upto the billing as they dominated proceeding with a 58 per cent of the ball possession. Madrid had six shots on target in comparison to four for Dortmund.
Meanwhile, it has been a goalless opening half! Borussia Dortmund have kept the pressure on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final and that is what has poised this game to perfection. The Spanish champions are going for their 15th European crown and sixth in the past 11 seasons against a Dortmund side hoping to win the competition for just the second time.
Real Madrid were absolute favourites to be crowned European champions against a Dortmund team that had beaten the odds just to make it to the English capital. Madrid had lost just twice in 54 games in all competitions this season, storming to the title in La Liga by 10 points and thrashing Barcelona 4-1 to lift the Spanish Super Cup along the way.
