Ryan Reynolds Bidding Record Price for NHL Team

The actor keeps winning and his investments are getting bigger and bigger.

Ryan Reynolds is looking to add another sports team to his warchest of investments.

The Remington Group, led by the Deadpool actor along with real estate tycoon Christopher Bratty, are reportedly bidding $1 billion for the Ottawa Senators, an NHL franchise, according to the Ottawa Sun.

While the Senators rank 26th out of 32 in Sportico’s NHL franchise valuation at $655 million, the purchase would be the largest in NHL history. The largest sale to date was $900 million for the Pittsburgh Penguins by the Fenway Sports Group in 2021.

If Reynolds’ team is successful in their bid -- the deadline of which is May 15 -- it would add a second sports team to his list of investments.

Reynolds is fresh off of a successful second season as co-owner of the Wrexham FC alongside ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ actor Rob McElhenney. The club won the National League, the fifth-highest pro league in England, and got promoted to the next level, League Two, for the first time since 2008.

The two purchased the Wales club for about $2.5 million in late 2020 and have used their investment and celebrity status to boost the club’s following, including launching an FX show ‘Welcome to Wrexham.’

Reynolds’ latest high profile move was the sale of Mint Mobile, the upstart mobile network operator, to T-Mobile for $1.35 billion. However, that sale may have hit a snag due to regulation issues.

Reynolds also famously sold Aviation Gin for $610 million in 2020.
