Vicky Kaushal has always nailed his performances, especially in films like Raazi and URI, not to forget Masaan and Manmarziyaan. He reunites with his Raazi director Meghna Gulzar for another gripping tale Sam Bahadur.
The actor plays the role of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and he immerses himself into the psyche and physicality of his personality. This could be a performance to remember for years.

The film also stars Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh (who plays the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi).
Who was Sam Manekshaw?
Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw, also known as Sam Bahadur, was the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, and the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal. His active military career spanned four decades and five wars, beginning with service in World War II.

Talking about the film, Vicky Kaushal said in a statement, “I had always heard stories about Sam Bahadur from my parents who hail from Punjab and have seen the 1971 war but when I read the script I was completely blown away. He is a hero and patriot who is still remembered and loved to this day and capturing his spirit in the film is of the highest importance to me.”
Meghna Gulzar said in a statement, “He was a soldier’s soldier and a gentleman’s gentleman. They don’t make men like Sam Bahadur anymore. I’m so honoured to be telling his story with Ronnie Screwvala and the incredibly talented Vicky Kaushal. On the Field Marshal’s birth anniversary, his story has got its name. I couldn’t be happier.”
The first look of Vicky Kaushal in Sam Manekshaw’s biopic was released in 2019 marking Sam’s death anniversary, paying him a tribute.
