Suryakumar approves Rinku Singh's MS Dhoni-like composure in finishing off games

Suryakumar Yadav was satisfied with the way his young Indian team took on their respective responsibilities and executed their roles meticulously in the ongoing T20I series against Australia. A young Indian team secured a 2-0 lead by winning the second match by 44 runs at the Greenfield International Stadium in Trivandrum on Sunday.

Batting first, India piled an imposing total of 235 runs for the loss of four wickets, and then the bowlers restricted Australia to 191 for nine. Suryakumar Yadav, captain for this series, was all praise for Rinku Singh for his decisive performance. Batting at No.5, Rinku scored an unbeaten 31 off nine balls – an innings that had four fours and two sixes.

Rinku Singh had played a crucial role in India’s two-wicket victory over Australia in the opening T20I on Thursday – where he showed excellent composure and calmness.

Speaking after the match, Suryakumar said, “When I saw Rinku in the last game, the composure was brilliant. Today’s effort too reminds us of everyone who’s done this for India.”

This was an apparent reference to former India captain MS Dhoni who is still regarded as one of the best finishers in Indian cricket – in limited overs cricket. Rinku Singh has also spoken about how he had mentally prepared to fulfill the role of a finisher.

In his sixth international match for India at Visakhapatnam, Rinku finished the match in a fashion reminiscent of MS Dhoni as he smacked a six off the final delivery, although it wasn’t officially tallied in the exhilarating victory over Australia. He played a superb innings of 22 off 14 balls as India achieved a record chase against Australia.

He was just getting started, as the Kolkata Knight Riders star continued his impressive form with a scintillating innings of 31 runs off just 9 balls in the second match, contributing significantly to India’s  eventual total.

After the win in Thiruvananthapuram, the teams will now proceed to Guwahati for the third T20I at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
