New Delhi: Truecaller, one of India’s most popular caller identification apps, in collaboration with Microsoft announced an AI-powered personal voice assistant that will create a digital version of the user’s voice to answer phone calls. To achieve this new feat, Truecaller will use Microsoft’s Azure AI speech technology to create the digital voice of the users.

The services of the new feature will only be available to the premium members of Truecaller.

How The Personal Voice Assistant Will Work

The AI-powered voice assistant will be able to answer calls, interpret the message and reply on the users’ behalf. The Swedish company said that the new feature is aimed to enhance the experience for the caller.

The users can use the new feature by recording their voice for the AI assistant. AI will instantly analyze the patterns of voice such as tone, texture and pitch to set up the AI assistant. The greeting template that the caller will hear can also be changed by the user.

Raphael Mimoum, product director and general manager of Truecaller Israel, speaking about the groundbreaking capabilities of the new feature, said, “The personal voice feature allows our users to use their voice, enabling the digital assistant to sound like them when handling incoming calls. This groundbreaking capability not only adds a touch of familiarity and comfort for the users but also showcases the power of AI in transforming the way we interact with our digital assistants.”

Additionally, Microsoft Azure has watermarked the user’s voice used in the AI assistant to ensure safety from potential misuse. Microsoft, in a blog post, said, “Watermarks are added to speech output created with the personal voice feature… As the personal voice feature enters general availability, we have updated the watermark technology with enhanced capabilities for identifying watermark existence.”

How To Use The Personal Voice Assistant

The new feature that enables users to use their personal voice for receiving calls is part of the Truecaller’s Assistant. Users can avail the new feature by opening the settings menu and locating the personal voice option. The feature will be available for the paid users of India, US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and Chile in a few weeks.
