UK orders police to 'use full force of law' against supporters of Hamas

UK has asked its law enforcement officials to use ‘full force of law’ against people who are coming out in support of Hamas and its surprise attack on Israel.

It happens after memorial services for murdered and kidnapped Israeli citizens were conducted in Westminster and pro-Palestinian demonstrations were staged in front of the Israeli embassy in Kensington.

Even on Tuesday it has been reported that crowds cheered a guy who climbed Sheffield Town Hall and tore down the Israeli flag in an attempt to replace it with the Palestinian flag.

According to authorities, two males allegedly ascended the structure before descending and escaping.

The announcement came as the Home Secretary issued a warning that hoisting the Palestinian flag in support of terrorist activities “may not be legitimate” on British streets.

Suella Braverman encouraged officers to use the “full force of the law” against demonstrations of sympathy for Hamas after its unprecedented attack against Israel in a letter to chief constables throughout England and Wales.

Targeting Jewish neighborhoods, displaying pro-Palestinian or pro-Hamas emblems, and yelling anti-Israeli chants, according to Ms. Braverman, might all be considered public order offenses.

The UK and several other Western countries, including the EU and the US, have declared Hamas a terrorist organization.

She therefore reminded police forces that anyone supporting Hamas or declaring allegiance to the organisation should face a criminal investigation.

Along with that, dressing in a way that makes them appear to be a Hamas member or supporter in public can also land a UK citizen in prison.

One cannot also post pictures of the organization’s flag or logo in the UK, as per the Home Secretary.

“At a time when Hamas terrorists are massacring civilians and taking the most vulnerable (including the elderly, women, and children) hostage, we can all recognise the harrowing effect that displays of their logos and flags can have on communities,” wrote Ms Braverman.

There is a “obvious risk this pattern will be repeated during the current conflict,” she continued, adding that upheaval in the Middle East has previously been used “as a pretext to stir up hatred against British Jews.”

“In the past, this has included vandalism of Jewish businesses, desecration of memorials and religious sites, physical and verbal abuse of Jews on the streets, convoys driving through Jewish neighbourhoods hurling antisemitic abuse, and proliferation of antisemitism online,” she stated.

In Golders Green, a neighborhood in north London with a sizable Jewish community, on Monday, a kosher restaurant had its windows broken and a cash register taken, and “Free Palestine” was scrawled on a nearby railroad bridge.

Jews have a right to live without coming back to their restaurant and finding that someone has smashed their windows.

The British Transport Police is looking into the graffiti as a possible hate crime, and local authorities have described it as a “deliberate attempt to intimidate the Jewish community.”
