Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur movie: All you need to know about Silloo Manekshaw, Sam’s wife

Sanya Malhotra essayed the character of Silloo, Sam’s wife opposite Vicky Kaushal in Meghna Gulzar’s directorial film Sam Bahadur. Although not much is known about Silloo in real life, the couple had two daughters, Sherry and Maya.

In an exclusive interview with Firstpost’s Lachmi Deb Roy, Sanya Malhotra said, “For us to crack Silloo’s look was kind of a challenge.  And her mannerism was even tougher I would say. We had to do multiple look tests. She looked beautiful in all her pictures, but she looked different in each one of them. She is such a strong personality and such a rock in his life to how she speaks and to how she calls her husband. I had multiple voice notes of Meghna to get through those dialogues in the film.

She added that during this phase of her life, Sanya was very excited to get the role because she was going through a slump in my career. “I was looking for a character that will really push me out of my boundaries and will make me learn something new. So, when I got a call from Meghna for this film, I knew it then that this is the kind of role I was looking for as an actor. I am very grateful to her that she chose me to play Sillo Manekshaw which is such an honour. To have lived her life through this film, I feel very honoured,” added Sanya.

Meghna Gulzar, the maker of the film Sam Bahdur said, “I remember the family saying that the mother would never be the type who was always well draped in a sari and her hair in place like a typical military wife. She was not that lady. She was a little bit of a rebel kind of a woman.”

For Sam Manekshaw too, he was not the type who would follow rules blindly. But when you are in the army you are impeccably turned out, which Sam Bahadur was. Sillo was the boss of the house. She was truly the woman who defined his life.
