In the ongoing ninth edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Grace Harris of the Brisbane Heat showcased her incredible strength when she smashed a six with a broken bat.
This extraordinary moment occurred on the second delivery of the 14th over when Grace Harris faced a length ball from Piepa Cleary of Perth Scorchers. She swung through the line of the ball and sent it sailing over wide long-on. Bess Heath, who was at the non-striker’s end, had offered a new bat to Grace, to which she responded, “I need a new bat… nah, stuff it. I’ll hit it anyway.”
EXTRAORDINARY!
Grace Harris had a broken bat, and this is how it played out:

Harris went on to compile an unbeaten 136 runs off just 59 balls, setting a new record for the highest individual score in WBBL history. She zoomed past previous joint record holders, Smriti Mandhana and Ashleigh Gardner, who had both scored 114 runs. She also surpassed her compatriot, Ashleigh Gardner, by recording the most sixes hit by a player in a single innings in the Women’s Big Bash League.
Speaking about the entire episode, Harris shared with the broadcasters, “It was actually a bit loose at the beginning of the game and that’s when they are at their best.”
“I just thought it will be fine, it will come through and then I heard it click in this one particular shot just before that six. Then I thought ‘no it hasn’t fully cracked’, I think it’s just loosened up even more. I’ll still hit it for six, I’m on anyway,” she added.
Brisbane Heat stand at the top of the points table with two wins from two matches, accumulating four points with a net run rate (NRR) of +1.400. Brisbane Heat dominated this match and would hope to continue with this momentum going forward.
