Watch: Virat Kohli wins 'Best Fielder of the Series' medal after splendid display in 3rd India vs Afghanistan T20

Virat Kohli was announced as the winner of the Fielder of the Series medal following his stunning catch in the third T20I between India and Afghanistan in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Kohli was instrumental on the field during Afghanistan’s innings, when Karim Janat slammed one towards the long-on fence. A highly alert Kohli leapt in the air, over the boundary ropes, and stretched his right hand well to put the ball back in the field of play, thereby saving a maximum. This happened in the 17th over, and just a couple of overs later, in the 19th, Kohli would come running from wide long-off with his eyes on the ball, to complete a splendid catch off Avesh Khan’s ball to dismiss Najibullah Zadran.

T Dilip, India’s fielding coach, was all praise for Indian fielders throughout the series, but said Kohli and Rinku Singh stood out. “When we show athleticism on the field with awareness, we can make a lot of difference, and today was a great example of that. Started with Washi, Sanju, outstanding effort,” T Dilip said in a video posted by BCCI. “Quick nominees for this whole series. I think only two consistent performers. Rinku, your athleticism is outstanding.

“This guy has shown time and again, split-second decision making whether to go for it or not, the way he keeps coming at you, saving those runs, putting those dives, going to hotstpots, you can’t take your eyes off none other than Virat Kohli,” said T Dilip.

“He not only does his job so well, but he inspires everyone. It’s a great opportunity to playing along with him. I’d like the other youngsters to come up, start replicating, doing half of it, and the whole team will look different. And today’s winner is none other than Virat Kohli,” added Dilip.

Rohit Sharma (121*) and Rinku Singh (69*) forged an unbeaten 190-run stand for the fifth wicket to take India to 212/4, a total that Afghanistan equalled courtesy fifties from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran and Gulbadin Naib. Scores were once again tied in the first Super Over on 16. Rohit and Jaiswal teamed up again to take India to 11 in the second Super Over, but it was Ravi Bishnoi who struck in consecutive balls to help India clinch a nail-biting win and complete a 3-0 series sweep.
