Watch: Wives, kids and moms announce New Zealand's squad for ODI World Cup in unique fashion

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on Monday announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup in a rather heartwarming manner. The announcement featured a wholesome twist as the closest family members and the near and dear ones of the cricketers were in focus, and they revealed the cap number of different players.

The video started with Kane Williamson’s wife and children, when they declared the ODI cap number of the New Zealand skipper. It then carried on to the sons of Trent Boult, the spouses of Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Daryl Mitchell. Tim Southee’s daughters, Lockie Ferguson’s fiancee, Jimmy Neesham’s grandmother and Will Young’s mother too featured in the video. Young spinner Rachin Ravindra who received a call up after impressing in England was introduced by his proud parents.

Kane Williamson’s selection was confirmed last week. However, the right-hander is still not fully fit and might not be available for New Zealand’s opening match against England on 5 October. Should Williamson not be available for few matches in the World Cup, Tom Latham will lead the side.

Opener Finn Allen and fast bowler Adam Milne could not find a spot in this squad. Trent Boult made a grand comeback to New Zealand’s playing XI in the second ODI against England as he ended with 3 wickets.

The squad for the ICC Cricket World cup was announced in Ish Sodhi’s old school. New Zealand were the runners up in the last edition where the match ended in a tie and England bagged the World Cup courtesy a boundary count.
