When 'Animal' star Ranbir Kapoor declined Ranveer Singh's role in 'Band Baaja Baaraat', later said 'I can't...'

Ranveer Singh’s debut Band Baaja Baaraat turned 13 on December 10. The film that also marked the directorial debut of Maneesh Sharma made Singh an overnight star. But do you know Animal star Ranbir Kapoor was the first choice for the role of the electric Bittu Sharma? On Koffee With Karan Season 4, Kapoor even confessed he regrets turning down the offer. But in an interview with Midday in 2018, he said, “I can’t say yes to all the films that are offered to me.”

At an interaction back in 2018, the actor recalled his debut film and said, “YRF was looking for a new face I got a call and I knew this was the opportunity I was waiting for. I kept my face safe and didn’t do modeling or music videos. And then I got a massive launch, essentially for an ‘outsider’, opposite a reasonably recognisable star Anushka Sharma.”

He added, “I ought to be pinching myself sitting in front of people. I wake up everyday thinking that I am living a dream. I was this young kid obsessed with Hindi movies. I struggled for three years in Mumbai, with my portfolio in my hand. I went through the routine drill. I made my own luck. I put myself in that position that where that good wave comes and you can flow with it.”

She once said, “Ranveer can’t be a boyfriend. He should be, it’s his first film, his entry in the industry, he has to….I understand that but that’s why I say I can never date him.”

Anushka once told Simi Garewal, “We have a very volatile relationship. We can kill each other. I’m serious, I can take his head off, he can take mine off… If we ever had to be in a relationship, we would want two different things. We see life in a very different way. He’s a very practical person, I’m completely impractical.”
